I was born and raised in Ireland, in a town called Maynooth, West of Dublin. Studied science at university but always enjoyed cooking and have worked as a chef for the past 20 years. I travelled to Australia in 2002 as a backpacker and was sponsored for a visa and ended up staying in Melbourne for 5 years before leaving to do some more travelling in 2007.
I had always wanted to go bicycle touring so I spent the second half of 2007 cycling in Australia and New Zealand covering 6000km in total. I moved back to Dublin in 2008 where I worked for a couple of years before moving to London in 2010 to work for the Jamie Oliver group for two years which I found both challenging, rewarding and fulfilling professionally . We loved living in London and used it as a base to travel as much as possible in Europe before deciding to return to Melbourne in 2012.
I had always been interested in woodwork but I never had the opportunity to learn so I took classes for a year at the Victorian Woodworkers Association School of Woodcraft in North Melbourne with Karl Lutz which I found very rewarding and I was very happy with the projects that I completed there.
I have built a workbench at home and have been building a collection of hand tools and small power tools and I am trying to develop my skill set.
I have greatly enjoyed the 6 months that I have been a member, getting to know fellow members and learning new techniques and I hope to continue this into the future.
