Altona Woodworkers Club Inc began in 1992.
The club was founded by a group of keen woodworkers, consisting of both hobby and professional craftspeople.
The club now has approx 30 members, catering for people in the inner west, outer west and Northern suburbs. There are various interests within the club including, cabinet making, woodturning, marquetry, carving, furniture restoration, toy making and all working with that marvellous material wood.
We meet at the Bayside Secondary College Woodshop, Altona North Campus, 1 McArthurs Road, Altona North (enter on Millers Road), every Tuesday evening from 7:30pm – 9:30pm during school term time.
Meetings consist of workshop time, members’ chit-chats and learning sessions. Sometimes members or representatives from various companies provide talks and/or demonstrations on products and techniques used in woodworking, eg wood finishes, saw sharpening, wood turning, use of the router, safety in the workshop, tool maintenance …etc.
It is a friendly environment with members happy to guide novices through a project from planning stage through to the finished article. Members also use the club evenings as an informal environment to share skills and knowledge amongst themselves.
